Psalm 139

by Jessica Gerhardt

/

lyrics

Lord You have searched me
You know me when I rest
And when I rise
You know all my ways
Your knowledge is beyond me
Too wonderful, too high
For me to attain
And You're with me all of my days

Oh where I can I hide
When nothing is out of Your spirit's sight
If I go up to the heavens You are surely there
And if i go down to the depths
You are surely there

And if I fly with the wings of dawn
To the far western horizon
Even there Your hand will hold and guide me
And there is no darkness
Where Your light cannot reach me

You formed my inmost being
You knit me in my mother's womb
And I praise You
For Your works are wonderful
My very self You knew
When I was made in secret, my bones
Were not hidden from You
woven in the depths of earth

Oh Your thoughts are like grains of sand
I'd need eternity to count them
So I rise up and still You are surely there
And I awake and still You are surely there

And if I fly with the wings of dawn
To the far western horizon
Even there Your hand will hold and guide me
And there is no darkness
Where Your light cannot reach me

Search me God and know
Know my heart
Test me and You'll know
Know my anxious thoughts
See if there is any
Offensive way in me
And lead me in the way
Of eternity.
Lead me in the way of eternity

Jessica Gerhardt Los Angeles, California

Jessica Gerhardt is an LA-native singer-songwriter whose style ranges from intimate ukulele-driven folk to anthemic indie rock. Her writing follows after fiery femme rock artists like Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette, but with a distinct spiritual bent, inspired by Sufjan Stevens and Audrey Assad. She hopes her music points beyond itself, to the transcendent, and that it uplifts and heals. ... more
